Valentines Day

Me spending my Valentines Day with friends at a European Commission "Ball". Lets just say that the only ones tangoing were the Austrians. None of the Americans I knew could do it, but my Polish date of course could -and lets just say that his attempts at teaching me, were a little less than successful :)

Just another day at the office :)
Im seriously going to miss the friends that I made...it went soooo quickly!

At a party after work...the theme was whatever you wanted it to be because no one could decide on one theme. My theme: Be me :)

My Irish Godsend David! We worked on the same Committee, so he was stuck with me most of the time...poor poor soul. Best mate at the Parliament :)

My latest

Strasbourg Parliament Brussels Parliament Parliament Train Station I use

Let me just say that my life has been utterly exhausting since my return back to the States in December. I never knew that catching up with family and friends could take so much energy out of me. I loved every second of it-dont get me wrong, but every day I woke in a panic thinking of what was next. The only time I could sleep-in were the days I was hung over due to the peer pressure of my insane and ridiculous friends :)

Well I returned January 5th to Brussels monday morning going straight into work, then visited friends in Paris that coming weekend, then took a train straight to Strasbourg for work the following week. I wrongfully assumed I would be able to work and complete my school papers (that were due the following week)...but as I said, I wrongfully assumed this. I worked my ass off proofreading documents, observing MEP meetings (thanks to the invitation of my brilliant tudor/mentor), running around the place trying to figure out what was to happen next. Work would end around 6pm then I would begin working on my papers until midnight with no results. I would have stayed there the entire night until I made progress but as I was staying at a hotel with 3 other co-workers ( I decided against this better judgment). So I return to Brussels utterly exhuasted, disappointed and drained after what they call the week of "stress-burg"; due to the fact that my papers were never written. Not one. And I had four to write.

The weekend before papers were due (the weekend upon my return), my dear father helped me fledge out information and cram to write 4 x 5,000 word documents that I could present as my finals. This of course only allowed me to leave my apartment two times during the duration of the weekend (in all, for a 20 minute break). Thursday night I went for some money, a box of chocolates, and a pack of cigs (sorry dad). The next morning I called my school administrator and told them I was not prepared and would not be able to complete my papers in time...they offered me an extension. However, after that conversation my writers block lifted and I began writing. I wrote all day. I stopped that evening to order pizza and food for delivery (again not leaving my little apartment)...I continued on my papers. I slept for small naps and worked around the clock to finish. I owe it all to my dear fathers help in completing this otherwise impossible task.

Monday I submitted my papers, and my professor and administrator were a bit skeptical but impressed I had completed the task at hand, assuring me that a passing grade was possible.

Tuesday I recalled that my dissertation proposal was due this Friday. As this is the most important document I will be writing in my academic career, I dare not rush it. So I asked and was given a three-week extension for my Dissertation proposal. And a six month extension for my Dissertation. So dad, let the fun begin :)

My dissertation is to compare de facto UN Resolutions (Chapter VII powers) to the opinio juris of International Law specifically looking at the UNSC Resolutions and GA Resolutions passed concerning Isreal.

So all in all, my life has been one incredibly hectic, non-stop roller coaster ride since December 15th. But I am all too thrilled to say it will be back in order come tomorrow when my weekend STARTS!

Alrighty, its nice to say that I have finally managed time to write something on my blog again :)

All the best to everyone!

My Work

Its pretty awesome when part of my day consists of running around my building trying to find hidden passageways and lost corridors to find entry into the hall where the Dali Lama will speak. We ran up stairwells, scammered through the crowds, ran like a school girl when I was faced with an old (but not wanted) acquaintance, all in efforts to only end where we started; our little intern rabbit hole :) Well it was a little disappointing but worth it in the end just to hear the Dali Lama over my computer as a live broadcast. I instantly fell in love with his humor and calm character. What an interesting, motivating, and intriguing man he is. In the future I predict...travels to Tibet :)

Let the rain begin

Let me tell you about two minor things in my day today.

First, I tried to take the elevator up when I was already on the top floor! I was looking for the toilet and I thought the arrow pointed up, so on the elevator i went. the door closed. i examine the bottoms (be there only two). i question my options. Hit 0 or -1. time. options. time. what to do. there is no up. should i go down and pretend I atleast went somewhere or just press 0 and get off... either way, if i was spotted it must have looked ridiculous because at this point all i can say to myself (between the laughter in my head) is ridiculous amber, just ridiculous.

Second, walking home in the rain. when it rains i feel as though i am about to fall at any minute. i seriously feel as though i am learning to walk for the first time or if youve ever seen the Bird Cage movie, think of the waiter who is wearing shoes for the first time...thats me. (maybe teachers should explain to kids how to walk in the rain instead of always dragging us indoors the second a drop falls from the sky above). so anyway. i look around to see if others have the same problem i do. Low and behold there IS! This poor old man walking on the street towards me (yes, a senior having the same problems as me...i dont know what that says about me but anyway, back to the story). This poor guy was all decked out in his rain gear, sperry boat shoes and all but the poor old chap just didnt seem to have faith in his reliable deck shoes. So there he was walking heel to toe, heel to toe, all the way down the street. i had to laugh at the fact that everytime i would look up to see him he WASNT getting any closer, well imean not anytime soon atleast ;)

Just another day in brussels :)
Love you guys,
am and mr. homer
